Leather
Created as a way of improving sustainability within the fashion industry, coconut leather is one of the newer eco-friendly materials on the market and it has quickly been embraced by the fashion community for being eco and animal friendly.
It is a plant-based imitation leather made using the bacterial cellulose grown from leftover coconut water. Through a process that involves sterilization, fermenting and harvesting (amongst other things), a flexible yet durable textile is created – one that has all the benefits of leather without any animals being harmed in the process of making it.
Coconut leather has a distinctive texture and unique beauty which lends itself well to what it is primarily being used for – making clothing and bags.
