Although there are different types, generally speaking, it is a silk-like thermoplastic derived from petroleum that can be melt-processed into fibres, films or shapes.

Similarly, to polyester, nylon is most celebrated for its strength due to its polymer based structure but it also has the added features of being weather-resistant and able to stretch which can be useful when making certain types of products.

Due to its long lifespan and versatile nature, nylon can be expensive which is why it might not be as commonly used as polyester but it is a great option if you are looking for something with endurance.
