Lyocell
fabric

This silky plant-based fabric has become a hugely popular choice for luxury and high street fashion brands over the last couple of years.

Lyocell comes from wood – mostly eucalyptus but sometimes oak or birch. The wood is harvested, cut into small pieces then ground into a pulp and dissolved by the chemical amine oxide. This produces a thick and sticky liquid that is pushed through spinnerets to create white lyocell fibres that can be spun into yarn and woven into a fabric.

Lyocell is hugely popular within eh clothing industry it’s such a soft and lightweight fabric that is friendly on the skin.

Compared to cotton, this innovative textile uses less than half as much water in its production, and the fast growth of eucalyptus trees means that the sourcing process is eco-friendly too.
